Kayaking on the St. Croix

Last month, Jeremiah and I went on a kayaking trip with some of the men from our church. It was a 30 mile trip downriver and we divided it into two days. We started late Friday afternoon and pulled into a campsite by evening to spend the night. One thing of value that we learned at this campsite is to always bring bugspray! Because there was a burning ban we could not start a fire, which will typically help keep the mosquitos away. Even though we did bring bugspray (which did help), we were still swatting flies, mosquitos, and gnats while we set up and were eating. The gnats were especially bad in the morning. When you would hold your food up for a bite, you'd receive more then just the anticipated bite; with it would come a number of the pesky things! Jeremiah, unfortunately, seemed to be a favorite target; during his breakfast he had a cloud of them around his head. : ) I saw him walking around multiple places, trying to find relief. He came by me and sat down, smacking his face and rubbing his hair. I then found myself doing the same thing even more than before! They really were following him.
But the trip was definitely worth this and has left us with many fun talks and memories. It was such a wonderful experience to spend time outdoors and see the wildlife. We're both looking forward to doing it again.
Special thanks to Mr. Kelley, Mr. Richter, and Mr. Phillips for making this this trip possible.

Happy Birthday Jeremiah!

Happy Birthday Jeremiah!
Today is his 14th birthday.  He is such an amazing friend and companion every day to me.  He has grown so much in just the past few years.  It has been so neat to watch him grow both physically and spiritually during that time.  I love his willingness to help and his joyful attitude, along with his sense of humor.  He loves the dogs and is an incredible help with them.  He's such a blessing and I'm reminded of it every day.   I love you.

He's a great baseball player!

Just for Laughs

When was the last time you saw a dentist's office with this title?  The dentist's name was probably Dr. Paine! :)  The Clinic and Urgent Care is right below to help out if you get seriously injured.

Actually, it was supposed to be INTEGRITY DENTAL CARE, but the "i-n-t-e" were burned out.

99

Yesterday was our Great Grandma's 99th Birthday! That's about 36,160 days!  It has been a blessing to have her as a part of our lives since we were little.  We've made so many memories with her.    It's amazing how active she still is.  She is an amazing cook and always has great meals for us when we visit.  She also enjoys telling us stories of  the past.

She's a great artist.
Some of her artwork is on the wall behind us.
She spends a lot of her time in the kitchen.

Battle Cake

Yesterday was Jonathan's 7th Birthday.  Mama made a brownie-cake in the shape of LEGO blocks.   Then Jeremiah, Mama, and I set up a battle scene!  Bad guys against good guys; it was lots of fun.  Here are some close-ups.
Mama made the "blood" out of left over cinnamon roll icing and red food coloring.
As you can see, Jeremiah set up some very "gruesome" scenes!
We had a great day!

Jonnie's 7th Birthday

Dear Jonathan,

Happy 7th birthday!  I can't believe how quickly you've grown in only 7 years.  You are so much fun to be around and play with every day.   I am so thankful to God for blessing our family with such precious gift.  May He bless you on this special day.  I love you so much.
